Interior Design Tips From Aiel Okin
Interior designer and author Ariel Okin shares how she used Spoonflower to bring the Fenimore Lane Design Summit to life, from custom event textiles to cohesive design storytelling. In this Q&A, she discusses the creative flexibility of Spoonflower's fabrics and patterns, the importance of supporting independent designers, and her approach to creating memorable, personalized event experiences.
In early June, in collaboration with True Events and Ryan Designs, interior designer and author Ariel Okin hosted the Fenimore Lane Design Summit at the Mayflower Inn & Spa, part of the Auberge Resorts Collection. The weekend celebrated design, craftsmanship, and the art of living well, bringing together artisans, designers, and industry voices. Below is our insightful question and answer session with Ariel.
Q: Why did you choose Spoonflower to help elevate this event?
Ariel: I am in awe of the variety of beautiful choices Spoonflower offers–with the ability to custom color and change scale, plus choose the different types of fabric substrates and sizing, there is a tremendous amount of bespoke optionality, which is so helpful for designers like myself. I love the variety of prints, from traditional and classic motifs to more graphic and modern, and I love the fact that I can support small businesses and textile designers individually by sourcing from Spoonflower's wide array of choices. The Design Summit weekend is all about lifting up small creative makers in the interiors world, and there's no better partner in the interiors space to do that than Spoonflower in terms of textiles. It felt like such a natural partnership!
Q: What drew you to Danika Herrick’s designs?
Ariel: *We have been using Danika's gorgeous textiles for a few years now at my firm, Ariel Okin Interiors, and I thought the classic, countryside aesthetic of the Fenimore Lane Design Summit at The Mayflower Inn & Spa fit so perfectly with Danika's timeless patterns, prints and colorways.

Q: How would you describe the overall style and aesthetic you wanted to achieve using Spoonflower?
Ariel: I really wanted to evoke the layered, charming countryside aesthetic of the beautiful Mayflower property–chintz, florals, checks, stripes and more, converging together in a palette inspired by nature’s hues.
Q: Why would you recommend Spoonflower for events, and what do you feel we add to the experience?
Ariel: Spoonflower was a dream to partner with on textiles for the summit. The Design Summit is essentially produced like a massive wedding, in production partnership with True Event and Ryan Designs–we have three tents with fabric swagging, and 50+ vendor tables, not to mention cocktail tables, and more. Integrating Spoonflower's gorgeous patterns from the beginning transformed the tents and exterior activation areas, creating a cohesive design story for guests from the moment they arrive at the check in table, throughout their experience walking through all three tents and the full Mayflower property.
Q: How did Spoonflower help customize and personalize the event?
Ariel: Spoonflower was able to provide exactly the right type of fabric for each tent's swagging, plus the perfect sized toppers for our vendor tables and cocktail tables. The ability to change things down to colorway and scale is such an asset not only for interior designers like myself but anyone looking to create a beautiful, unique event experience that will stand out for guests.
