For Nicole Blough, entertaining defines great design. At her coastal North Carolina retreat, she creates spaces where bold color, playful pattern, and coastal motifs set the tone for both everyday living and meaningful gatherings, balancing beauty, function, and a strong sense of place. She turns to North Carolina brands Spoonflower and VIETRI, united by a shared commitment to craftsmanship. Spoonflower’s artist-designed grasscloth wallpapers and performance linens layer vibrant pattern and durability, forming a lively backdrop for VIETRI’s hand-painted dinnerware, mouthblown glassware, and ocean-inspired Onda vases. In a summer home, resilience matters as much as style. “Everything is meant to be used and enjoyed,” Blough says. “Nothing should be too precious to live with.”

Meet Nichole Blough
A set of core principles guide every project Nicole Blough creates, including her family’s cherished home on the North Carolina coast. At the heart of her work is intention—designing spaces that reflect the people who live in them through thoughtful, meaningful choices. She values balance, carefully layering color, pattern, and furnishings to create cohesive, harmonious interiors. Creative freedom allows her to push beyond convention, while a commitment to enduring style ensures her homes evolve gracefully alongside the families who inhabit them. A Raleigh native, Blough’s passion for design was shaped by her grandparents: a grandmother who cherished antiques and a grandfather who was a modern artist. Their influence inspired her love of color, texture, and collected interiors. After graduating from NC State, she founded her firm in 2018. Today, she lives in Raleigh with her husband and three sons, drawing endless inspiration from the North Carolina coast, her family's happy place!
